Extension to a Barn Conversion, North Somerset

Watercress Barn is a complex of early 1800's agricultural buildings that were converted into a house in 2006.

The Project

The original barn conversion living spaces did not fully maximise the link between the house and garden.

Corbel have updated an existing planning consent and gained permission to improve the extension design so that the living space open up to garden further and the details sympathetically marry to the existing barn, allowing several historic features to be retained.

The design developed through close discussion with the client and use of a working model and drawings to clearly illustrate what is proposed.

Now completed, and clearly identifiable as a new addition to the historic barn, the extension and surrounding landscaping provides a multi-functional set of spaces that free up the main barn’s living spaces and creates a clear connection to the garden.
