Energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials was critical to the design.
Located in Green Belt meant development volumes were restricted to match existing built volumes. By careful analysis and discussion the design answers all the client’s, brief and meets critical volumes.
Demolishing several poorly built and inappropriate 1980’s and 1990’s extensions left the core early 1800’s agricultural workers cottage that is restored. The new extensions are dug into and step down the hillside to reveal the cottage and minimise their impact on the landscape, whilst also opening up the house to the sun’s path and northern views.
The garden design integrates with the house to significantly increase site wide biodiversity and maintain the resident bat population.
