Dating back to the 1200’s and reputedly built by the Whittington family, whom Richard Whittington (famous merchant and former Lord Mayor of London) was a part of.
In terms of age the building is deceiving as it hides behind a Georgian frontage that was added in the 19th C when the building was converted to a townhouse. Behind this relatively recent façade remains much of the original 13th C timber framing that formed a large part of the building’s construction.
We were contracted to carry our conservation and structural repairs to the building’s façade, to include brick and stone repair, a new carved finial, extensive re-pointing and structural tying and the renewal of the lead valley and associated roof slope.
Internally new toilets were added and the upper floor was almost fully replastered using lath and lime after the new M&E installation had been completed.
