Killerton Chapel is a grade 1 listed building, set within the grounds of the National Trusts Killerton Estate. Built in 1841 the chapel was built by the Acland Family as a private place of worship. Constructed predominantly of Volcanic trap ashlar, with Bere stone dressings, the chapel consists of four bays each divided externally by pyramidally capped buttresses ending with an apsidal East end and topped with a fish scaled welsh slate roof. The crown jewel of the chapel is that of its West elevation, wheel style window, which is famed by many. We were enlisted in 2023 to execute a substantial phase of masonry repair, which involved dismantle and re-build, repair, indent and replacement to all areas of the chapel. Extensive re-pointing was carried out to the ashlar walling that had previously been re-pointed in cement, as well as cleaning of the large masonry plinth. At roof level we replaced multiple copings in St Bee’s sandstone, whilst re configuring the lead valleys and relining them in code 8 sand-cast lead.
