About Chris

As Managing Director, Chris leads all facets of our operations—overseeing site and contract management, pre-construction planning, administration, in-house trades, and our expansive supply chain. His leadership is grounded in a collaborative approach that values the heritage of the buildings we work on, while embracing modern management techniques to continuously improve how we deliver our projects.

Chris began his career as a time-served carpenter with Houghtons of York, contributing to the restoration of some of the UK’s most treasured historic buildings, including Nostell Priory, Beningbrough Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Blackwell House in the Lake District.

He later expanded his expertise with a Diploma in Construction Site Management, which opened the door to a ten-year tenure at William Anelay Ltd. There, he managed multiple award-winning conservation projects.

Notable projects from this time include:

  • The Bowes Museum, County Durham – a magnificent example of French-style architecture in Northern England.
  • Myton Grange Stud Farm – a rare Victorian stud farm with wartime historical significance.
  • Preston Hall Winter Gardens, near Yarm – a grand winter garden built by shipping magnate Robert Ropner to showcase exotic plant species.

After relocating to Somerset 2012, Chris joined Corbel Conservation and has progressed through every management level. Now as Managing Director, he brings over 25 years of experience within the heritage sector of the construction industry, a deep respect for heritage craftsmanship, and a forward-thinking mindset to guide the company’s continued growth and success.
